Philip Dean Samaha, MC
Licensed Associate Counselor
Dean was born and raised in Connecticut where he developed a deep love with the natural world. This love was taken to a new level while earning his degree in Business Marketing from Castleton University in Vermont. Following his bachelor’s degree, he worked as a Community Mentor where he worked with adolescents who were on probation. After a move to Bend, Oregon, he worked as a Field Instructor in a wilderness therapy program, which ultimately led to him pursuing his masters degree in counseling from Oregon State University - Cascades. After earning his masters degree, he worked as a Child and Family Therapist for Thrive Mental Health in Bend before moving to Flagstaff and joining Beyond the Pines.
Dean is passionate about his work with children, adolescents, adults, and people with TBI. He applies an eclectic lens to his therapy approach, which contains elements of ecotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness based stress reduction, family systems, and attachment based counseling. He values providing a safe space for the therapeutic relationship to help clients develop awareness and insight into whatever life might present. A benefit of working with Dean is that he supplements the therapeutic process with his trusty canine sidekick and sweet therapy dog, Gracie.
When Dean’s not found at the space Beyond the Pines, he can be found gardening, scaling large walls consisting of rock or ice, walking his dogs, or polishing his 2017 and 2019 Bend Recreation League Hockey championship trophies.
