Billy Brey-Boswell, MA (he/him)
Licensed Associate Counselor

Billy grew up in Southwest Iowa, “on the farm." As a kid, he loved being outside and recalls being in awe of the mountains and western landscapes from childhood family vacations to various national parks. After earning his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Northwestern Missouri State University (#GoBearcats), he landed in Utah to work as a Field Instructor for Evoke Therapy Programs. In this role, he learned to appreciate the therapeutic power of the outdoors and human connection through vulnerability. In 2018, after moving around the country (and the world) for a while, he and his wife settled in Flagstaff, where he then pursued a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northern Arizona University.

Billy uses person-centered principles as the anchor in his eclectic approach to counseling. He strongly believes the therapeutic relationship is the key factor in counseling’s effectiveness. He strives to provide a safe space in which his clients feel comfortable offering feedback in order to get the most out of their counseling experience. He incorporates aspects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in his practice. Additionally, he uses EMDR in his approach to treating trauma and is Gottman level I certified, which he applies to working with couples. Overall, he feels excited to work with individuals ages 18+ and couples from all backgrounds.

Outside of counseling, Billy can be found riding his mountain bike, hiking or camping with family and friends, caring for his chickens, or relaxing with his cat Keety.
