Claudia Escobedo, BA (she/her)

MA Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern

As a native of Sedona, Claudia has always appreciated the beauty of the Southwest. Growing up among the beautiful landscape nurtured her curiosity and taught her to find wonder and whimsy in everyday moments — something that continues to shape both her creativity and the way she connects with others in the process of counseling. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychological Sciences from the one and only Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, and is currently en route to also complete her master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at NAU.

Claudia works with individuals ages 10 and older, including teens and adults, as well as couples, and has especially enjoyed supporting clients navigating life's various transitions. Her practicum experience centered on college-aged individuals and older children between the ages of 10 and 12, which is where she currently feels most at home in her clinical work. She maintains a desire to work with a variety of clients and continues to grow in her practice.

Her therapeutic approach is still evolving, but Claudia finds herself increasingly drawn to an integrative style rooted in Person-Centered and Relational-Cultural Therapy, with elements of Solution-Focused Therapy woven in when they fit a client's needs. She believes firmly in the capacity of every individual to grow, change, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves, while recognizing that this process looks different for everyone. Claudia especially enjoys exploring emotional mindfulness and the connection between our reactions, emotions, and sense of self. She emphasizes the importance of the therapeutic relationship and believes the capacity for change evolves out of working in a safe, trusting, quality relationship.

When Claudia isn't practicing therapy or finishing school, she loves pairing art with the outdoors, often turning to the natural world for inspiration. You can find her reading fantasy novels while sitting in the shade of an oak, or with a sketchbook in hand. Her clinical journey has been supported by her ever-mindfully living cat, Toby, whose furry therapeutic skills are unrivaled.
