Dan Phillips, PhD (he/him)
Licensed Psychologist

Dan moved to Flagstaff, AZ, to complete his Ph.D. and chose to stay after realizing what a special place it was. He is originally from Utah and completed degrees in Behavioral Science (B.S.) and Professional Counseling (M.S.). He earned his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at Northern Arizona University. While completing his degree at NAU, he taught classes in educational psychology and worked as a Graduate Assistant at Counseling Services. Following his residency, he worked as a psychologist at Flagstaff Counseling Center for 4 years prior to starting Beyond the Pines alongside Cody Bayles in 2021.  

 

Dan is a generalist practitioner that utilizes various modalities. He predominantly utilizes a Cognitive Behavioral orientation with a focus on how thoughts and behaviors influence emotions, relationships, and life pursuits. He also integrates systems and psychodynamic theory with humanistic and interpersonal approaches. Dan strives to maintain a holistic focus utilizing a variety of techniques to meet the needs of each individual client. Through counseling, clients strive to resolve current stressors, develop and maintain coping and support strategies, and enhance clarity and self-awareness to assist in responding to issues that may arise in the future.

 

Dan provides treatment for adolescents, adults, individuals, and couples. He has previous experience working in community mental health with an interest and expertise in anxiety, depression, identity issues, adjustment, and substance dependence.
