Theya Wood, BA (she/her)
Master CMHC Intern
Theya moved to Flagstaff to pursue her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2023 after studying Spanish and Women and Gender Studies in college at CU Boulder. Originally from La Crosse, Wisconsin, she grew up spending time outside and has found a home in Flagstaff’s natural beauty and abundance of outdoor activities. She has a distinct calling to work with people in a manner that is both restorative and community building. Her passion lies in creating a therapeutic environment that encourages a balance of both client growth and comfort. Her previous work as a K-12 tutor and as a team leader in an NAU campus program also contributed to a passion for working with students and individuals who are open to life-long learning.
In the counseling room, Theya brings a warm and empathetic presence that centers the client's needs and personal story. In that, she seeks to pair a client's natural strengths with theory learned in her graduate program to help people develop more self-awareness, compassion, and coping skills for their everyday lives. Her practice centers skills from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Parts Work, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy–all framed within a trauma-informed lens.
Theya has worked with individuals from ages 5 to 70 years old and is keen on providing a therapeutic experience that fits her client's experiences and specific needs. Additionally, she is passionate about working with neuro-diverse individuals who are seeking assistance in emotional regulation, executive functioning, and general life satisfaction for themselves or their children.
Outside of work, Theya enjoys spending time with her friends and family, playing soccer, and singing. She also enjoys spending time outside whether it be hiking, running, skiing, or climbing.
